The idea is to use robots to create a hybrid fleet, increasing military ranks while reducing the loss of lives.
The advancement of robots has already led to their use for military purposes in various locations around the world. A prime example is the war between Russia and Ukraine, which has been marked by the use of increasingly powerful and deadly drones.
The U.S. Navy, for instance, is closely monitoring this scenario. Recently, the head of the Special Warfare Command, Rear Admiral Milton Sands, stated that it’s necessary to “embrace robots.”
Robots are already being used for military purposes
Drone boats and unmanned submarines are enhancing the firepower of traditional ships.
These technologies are also involved in monitoring strategic seas and oceans.
The biggest obstacle until now has been the high production cost of these equipment.
However, as technologies become more affordable, they open the door for greater use in the battlefields.
The information comes from Axios.
The goal is to create a hybrid fleet.
Currently, several companies are developing new weapons for the U.S. military. For example, Saildrone will provide 20 unmanned Voyager ships for monitoring illegal activities in the Caribbean and Pacific Oceans.

Meanwhile, Boeing won a $805 million contract to design, build, and deliver the MQ-25 Stingray, an unmanned tanker aircraft. The Navy announced in August of last year that the first control room for the new equipment was installed aboard the aircraft carrier George H.W. Bush.
Last year, the Navy also introduced the new robot warfare specialist designation. The agency called it “a major milestone” in the implementation of a “truly hybrid fleet,” aimed at expanding military ranks and reducing the loss of lives.
