Trump appoints actors as ambassadors to revitalize Hollywood

US President-elect Donald Trump has appointed actors Mel Gibson, Jon Voight and Sylvester Stallone as “Special Ambassadors” for Hollywood. The announcement was made on January 16, 2025, via the social network Truth Social. Trump stressed that the aim of these ambassadors is to revitalize the American film industry, bringing back business that has been lost to other countries in recent years.

Mel Gibson expressed surprise at the appointment, but said he was willing to fulfill the role assigned. He joked about the existence of an official residence for ambassadors.
Jon Voight, known for his support for Trump, was also nominated, as was Sylvester Stallone, who has frequently shown support for the president-elect.

The Hollywood industry has faced significant challenges in recent years, including a 26% drop in production since 2021, attributed to the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2023 strikes and natural disasters such as forest fires. Trump believes that the experience and influence of these veteran actors can help restore Hollywood’s “golden age”.

Although the specific responsibilities of the ambassadors have not been detailed, they are expected to act as Trump’s “eyes and ears” in the film industry, suggesting measures to strengthen the sector in the United States.
