Sonos CEO resigns after new app fails

Sonos CEO resigns

Patrick Spence, CEO of Sonos, resigned on January 13, 2025, following the problematic launch of a new app that resulted in widespread customer dissatisfaction, layoffs and a drop in employee morale.

In May 2024, Sonos launched a redesigned app for Android and iOS, aimed at improving performance and customization, as well as adding new features. However, the app introduced several bugs, reduced the performance of speaker systems and removed important functionalities, leading to a significant backlash from customers.

The company tried to resolve the problems, restore the missing features and regain customers’ trust, but failed to recover completely. As a result, Spence stepped down, and Tom Conrad, a Sonos board member since 2017 and a veteran of the tech industry, took over as interim CEO.

Conrad expressed his commitment to focusing on customer satisfaction, innovating and recovering the company’s traditional morals and values. He emphasized the importance of solving current operational problems and driving future growth, as well as calling for a collective effort to restore trust in the Sonos brand.

Sonos plans to continue with its product pipeline, including a new video streaming player, in an attempt to overcome recent challenges and improve its performance in the market.
