Apple has announced the release of iOS 18.2 for all compatible devices. This update introduces several new features, highlighting advancements in Apple Intelligence and new functionalities integrated into native apps.
With iOS 18.2, users will gain access to Image Playground, an app that generates images from textual descriptions, and Genmoji, a tool for creating personalized emojis using artificial intelligence. Additionally, the Notes app now features Image Wand, which transforms doodles and handwritten notes into images.
The virtual assistant Siri has also received significant improvements, now integrating with ChatGPT. When faced with more complex questions, Siri can request permission to consult OpenAI’s chatbot. This partnership is also present in writing tools, allowing texts to be reviewed and adjusted for tone, length, and other aspects.
Other system functionalities have been updated. Apple Music and Apple TV now offer natural language search interpretations. The Voice Memo app has been enhanced to capture recordings in different layers, while the Camera Control button now includes the “Visual Intelligence” feature, providing information about objects and locations nearby. Safari has received important improvements, including the ability to export and import data from other browsers and a new widget on the Dynamic Island that displays download progress.
New features also include the addition of a Sudoku game in the News app (available in regions with a News+ subscription), additional images for Safari personalization, and the Share Item feature in the Find My app, which helps locate lost items using AirTags or compatible devices. In the Podcasts app, users can now mark favorite categories to easily access preferred genres.
iOS 18.2 compatibility covers a wide range of devices, from the iPhone XS and XR to the latest models in the iPhone 16 lineup. However, some advanced AI functions are only available for the iPhone 15 Pro, 15 Pro Max, and all models in the iPhone 16 series. Alongside iOS 18.2, Apple has also released updates for iPadOS, macOS, tvOS, watchOS, and visionOS.
