Ella Purnell Reveals Fear of Being Labeled 'The Video Game Girl'

Ella Purnell, known for her roles in video game adaptations like Arcane and Fallout, recently shared her desire to diversify her career to avoid being labeled exclusively as the “video game girl.” Speaking at the MCM x EGX 2024 event in London, the actress revealed that while she’s enjoyed her experiences with these projects, she isn’t a gamer and is concerned about the risk of being stereotyped. She said, “I think I need to step back a bit from video game-based productions. I don’t want to be labeled as ‘the video game girl.’ Not that it’s a bad thing, but still…”

Purnell emphasized that, despite not being a gaming enthusiast, she’s grateful for the positive impact of her performances in Arcane and Fallout. However, she’s eager to explore different types of characters and projects to showcase her versatility as an actress. Beyond her work in video game adaptations, Purnell has also appeared in series like Yellowjackets and Sweetpea, demonstrating her talent across various genres.

Currently, the actress is involved in the production of the second season of Fallout, slated for release in 2026, and expressed her excitement about continuing to contribute to the series. Nevertheless, she stressed the importance of pursuing new professional challenges to expand her artistic repertoire.
