American rapper and DJ Anthony Leonard Platt, better known as DJ Unk, passed away at the age of 43 on January 24, 2025. The news was confirmed by his wife, Sherkita Long-Platt, who asked for privacy during this difficult time.
DJ Unk rose to prominence in the Atlanta music scene in the 2000s with hits such as “Walk It Out” and “2 Step”. His debut album, “Beat’n Down Yo Block!”, released in 2006, consolidated his position in Southern hip-hop. He has also collaborated with artists such as DJ Montay and V.I.C., leaving a significant mark on Atlanta music.
The cause of death has not been released. In 2009, DJ Unk suffered a heart attack, which he attributed to a combination of constant touring, poor eating habits, alcohol consumption and smoking.
The record label Big Oomp Records, with which DJ Unk was associated, mourned his loss, highlighting his importance as an artist and the lasting influence of his music.
