Taylor Swift and Donna Kelce had some lighthearted but firm advice for Travis Kelce as he prepared to head to New Orleans for Super Bowl LIX. The exchange took place after the Kansas City Chiefs secured their AFC Championship victory over the Buffalo Bills with a 32-29 win.
In a video shared online, Travis Kelce mentioned to his mom and Swift, “Take me back to my old New Orleans home. I owe New Orleans a little something.” This prompted a quick response from Swift, who smiled and warned, “Yeah, no going to Bourbon Street,” referring to an incident in 2010 when Kelce faced repercussions for marijuana use while in New Orleans. Donna Kelce, 72, agreed with Swift’s sentiment.
Kelce, 34, reassured both women that he would be on his best behavior. “Yeah, I won’t be having as much fun that night,” he joked before adding that he’d steer clear of the city’s infamous “hand grenade” cocktails, known for their potent mix of vodka, rum, gin, and melon liqueur.
Kelce’s Past in New Orleans
Back in 2010, Kelce was suspended from the University of Cincinnati football team after testing positive for marijuana. While his team played against the Florida Gators in the Sugar Bowl, Kelce had to sit out the game. Reflecting on that time during a 2023 interview, Kelce admitted, “I was down in New Orleans, listening to Lil Wayne, and I wanted to smoke what he was smoking.” His suspension left him embarrassed and contemplating leaving football until his brother, Jason Kelce, encouraged him to stay the course.
Celebrating the AFC Championship
Swift, dressed in a striking Louis Vuitton outfit, cheered for the Chiefs alongside her mom, Andrea Swift, and Donna Kelce. Videos captured the pop star celebrating touchdowns with hugs and high-fives. After the game, Swift and Kelce met on the field, where they shared a kiss and celebrated the win together.
The couple later joined the Chiefs team at a private celebration at Prime Social, where an insider revealed, “Taylor and Travis were dancing together and clearly very much in love. They were kissing and looked so happy. Everyone had an amazing time.”
Having started their relationship in the summer of 2023, the couple continues to enjoy each other’s company both on and off the field. Swift, along with the Kelce and Swift families, is expected to attend Super Bowl LIX on February 9, where the Chiefs will face the Philadelphia Eagles.
